Sacramento CX—Round 1
First race in the Bs. Laurel and I headed out first thing in the morning, and it was already a nice difference to be out of the house at 8AM rather than 6AM for Cs. Travis urged me to change from Men’s B 35+ to Men’s B so that I could race with Daryl, Nick and Kyle, which ultimately was rad advice. Pre-riding the course with those dudes I was kind of stunned, the guys are fast and smooth, where I still often feel raw and a little aggressive, these dudes just flow. Its been good to follow lines.
At the line, I lined up with Nick and Kyle. I got a good start and the three of us kept a good pace for two of three laps. Kyle would rocket by me on the climb and descent and then I would find him somewhere in the woods or the flat sections. At lap 4 my body was done, thinking I had been out there for thirty minutes, so it was a shock to realize I had 4 more to go—welcome to Men’s B.
It was so good to race with teammates, and I don’t think I would have finished as well as I did if I had been out there alone. I’m stoked with the result, no crashes, no rookie mistakes, and home without blood or mechanical issues. Shout out to Cameron, the new dismount technique is rad. I went through the barriers at a slower speed but came away faster and smoother, very cool! Congrats to Daryl on 3rd place!
Result: 10th place.
